C220 Cdi Cooling noises

I have a W 2000 reg C220 cdi and have on a couple of short journeys of 3 or 4 miles or so noticed when I have got out of the car a loud almost central heating boiler sound running for some minutes after the engine was switched off. tonight the outside temperature showed + 6.5C.

Is this normal? the radiator fan wasnt running and the temp gague showed about 75C.

I can't remember the exact temperature that it kicks in but the sounbd you're hearing is a diesel heater

Because the engine takes such a long time to warm up there is a supplementary heater (like a burner?) simialer to truck cab heters and to my recollection it's positioned somewhere close to the drivers side wheelarch.

It can be disabled by the switch behind the gearlever that looks something like a heated seat switch (manual will tell you exactly)
