hi, i recently bought a C220 CDi Evo (W203) and have a major problem with car pulling to the left. I have had 4 wheel alignment done twice and tried the front wheels off another Coupe and the fault is still there. I recall some earlier comments in relation to this, but is it possible that something mechanical could be at fault?

HELP!!!!!!!

Has the car ever been involved in an accident?
Sideways swipes, even when repaired well can sometimes results in pulling cars to the left or right.
My old Elan never felt the same after some nonk hit me in the back even though it was repaired by a Lotus specialist and was checked and pronounced perfect.

Have you checked ball joints, steering joints - maybe a broken spring !

:)Had very bad problem with my c240 w203 pulling to left had to have a new ball joint fitted seems to have done the trick but they can pull to left a bit with kerb knocks etc and probably worse if you have bigger wheels like my amgs.

Who did the wheel alignment? MB have the best equipment and know what they are doing.

The 203 is camber sensitive and where it may appear it is pulling it may just be sensitive to the camber of the road. There are many 203's that suffer with it if not all. It seems to be worse if the wheels are 17"+ and wide and the tyre tread pattern is a directional type.

My W203 fits that description to tee......17"...wide rims.....shod with Continentals with directional tread pattern...........but it doesnt pull either way - on any road. Its as straight as a die on all road types from smooth new motorways down to pot holed back streets.
So its certainly not all........

Whatever you do, don't get the MB recommended fix of revised suspension bolts being fitted. They force the car in straight line even on left-sloping roads, but the trade-off is it's like driving a bouncy castle around corners .......

When I first bought mine, I noticed that there was a pull to the left. After a few miles driving it I decided that it could not possibly be down to wide wheels/tyres and the camber of the roads.

I booked it back in with Mercedes-Benz of Swindon, where I had bought it and one of their mechanics drove it.

He agreed that it was not right and they had it in the workshop, adjusted the tracking and it is now fine. There is a slight tendency to follow camber but no worse than other cars I have driven.

Take it back (assuming you bought it from a M-B dealer) and get them to check it under warranty.

In 2001 my friends wife bought a new C270 cdi which pulled to the left from day one. After much runaround from the stealer she forced them to replace it, claiming that the car was not of merchantable quality ie incapable of performing as it was intended

When I bought my C270 CDi it too pulled to the left, had a new nearside front tyre due to a puncture, car drove straight from that day on. I drive with slightly higher pressure in the tyres about 3-5lb that too tends to correct it a bit. My car runs on Michelin.
