Hi, does anyone know what sort of revs a 2004 C220 automatic should be idling at. Mine seems to be around 7000 all of sudden which seems pretty high to me.

Also, it seems to get 'stuck' in gear so to speak. This is particularly noticeable when you start it in the morningsor evening when it hasn't been used for a few hours. It starts ok and you drive along, then you get to a speed where the next gear should kick in and it seems to rev up really high and loud before shifting to the next gear. This gets better as the car heats up. This has been a problem since new and I have never got to the bottom of.

Any thoughts anyone?

I think you mean 700RPM dont you ? These cars are designed to "hold on to " the lower gears when cold, this is to allow everything to warm up quicker and as the engine/trans heats up the gears will start changing earlier. TBH this maybe what you are experiencing. Just my thoughts.

Thanks to Delboy and Malcolm, I have asked the garage everytime its serviced why it holds on to the gears and never had a reply! Now it all makes sense. That said, it does it a lot, but especially mornings/evenings/when it hasn't been run for a few hours.

Yes, I did mean 7000rpm. The car has just been serviced but I don't really trust the garage so wanted to check. It seemed a bit higher than normal to me.
