Hello,

I have a c220 sport , manual , no a/c, it's done 83k, had full MB servicing until the 81k service, which i did my self .

The problem is it has developed a misfire at around 4000rpm, when driving if you accelerate hard it revs right round to the limiter, but if you accelerate slowly when you get to 4000 it starts to miss and the revs drop. While it is missing if you floor it , it's fine.

The same happens while stationary, if you then take your foot off the accelerator, it will either stall, or just about tick over with nothing showing on the rev counter, if you rev it , it picks up ok again.

If you cause it to happen a few times it, slowly starts to happen slightly lower in the rev range about 3750..

If anybody got any ideas would be a great help....

Just one other thing , it has the ignition coils on the side...

Thanks Andy...

Hello Again,

Well i know it was a long shot , and I know there could be alot of different things that could be causing the problem.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same , that was all.

Or if anyone knows if I can check the ignition system, and sensors with a meter it would be a great help..

Many Thanks

Andy...

I have heard of problems with the coils" on the side" Difficult to test except by substitution. you could buy one and test each in turn, but it is recommended you change both if a fault is found in one. if ignored can eventually damage the ecu :( :( I think the info was in a back number of car mechanics- try your local library

misfire at 4000 rpm

Did you ever fix this - my new (1996) C180 also misfires at 4000 rpm.

sat at standstill and floor the acc. the revs go to 4000 then seem to "bounce" at 4000 rpm - almost like a rev limiter #?

Thanks
