c220 oil leak

was sat in slow traffic today for about a hour when i got on the motor way and opened the old girl up smoke poored from the car pulled to hard shoulder found automatic trans oil dripping from under car dipped oil and carried on journey to get off motor way checked again no more oil leaking and carried on a further 70 miles with no probs .any ideas ?? thanks colin

I guess the oil got onto the hot exhaust somehow.

You need to let the engine idle when car is very hot and keep looking around and underneath and find where the leak is coming from - I doubt it has stopped completely.

Do need to do, it as you will be left with no drive on your next long journey after the gearbox has emptied.

Buy some bottles of Merc gearbox oil and keep in the boot well until it is sorted.

How many miles has your car done? ATF very quickly turns darker from the Raspberry colour it is when new, you sure it could not be coolant with a pink anti freeze?
