Hi

Anybody heard of problems with the bolts on the collars that secure the injectors in place on C220cdi 2000 model year ?

My father in law is having problem , first time an injector went this problem occured bolt would not secure collar and a leak kept coming, rethreading was required and an oversized bolt used , quite expensive :(

Now same problem has occured with replacing another injector

Anybody heard of this and or a solution.

Thanks for any help

Shouldn't be possible

unless the thread fails...

The usual problem is that the threads get very dirty while the injector is being removed and they take quite a lot of cleaning. If they are not totally clean the bolt will reach the correct torque by sticking in the threads as opposed to tightening on the collar. I've done seven injectors now and am unfortunately getting good at it...

they are stretch bolts and have a specific tightening procedure.

and only designed...i think... for using once, replace with new...they're pennies.

Yes they are only used once.

The thread should be tapped with an appropriate size tap to remove the gunk. I must have fitted 100 injectors and not once had a bolt snap or thread ruined because I follow the proceedure of tapping the hole again, using a new bolt and torquing it up properly.

CDI injector bolt

I have come across this problem a lot as i run a thread repair service in Carlisle,I must have repaired twenty of these in the last twelve months and it is not an expensive repair normally without removing the cylinder head.
