I have a customer with a possible intercooler failure, at high RPM a whooshing sound can be heard so Im assuming the intercooler has been holed, the car seems to drive well enough but then the car is switched into LHM and revs dont exceed 3000rpm, the car is manual by the way.

customer cant get the car to me in a hurry as its a taxi 24 hours a day, his question to me was is it ok to keep driving for the short term until the car has time to come in for repair.

there also seems to be black smoke but I thought thats normal for derv anyway.

It cant do anymore damage other that spray a bit of oil around from the leak!

The hose's are just as common as the intercooler to split aswell.

Oh and it might put the engine managment light on if it keeps going into limp and that will need reseting.

Likely that one of the turbo/intercooler pipes has come loose or failed which would create a 'low' boost' fault and trigger the lhm........i would expect to see more than usual black smoke due to the imbalance of air to fuel ratio because of low air boost.

I would think it ok to drive in the short term without any risk of further damage untill it can be repaired.

Smart + others :)
can be a number of things, inter cooler, boost pipes, inlet shut off valves dropping out or blocked cat/particulate filter. all will give you different degrees of "whoosing".

great you all gave a number of things to look for and I havent had chnace to get my hands on the car yet, chap that owns the car seems to think he heard a loud bang shortly before which sounds more like soemting split or got hit.
