c230, slight screech cold start up??

hi, i have a 96 c230k, when starting from cold it makes a screeching noise for a split second, does anyone know what this is likely to be?? dosent do it any other time only first start of the day,?? also have the 230k got a cambelt or chain??? thanks in advance spencer.

could be the belts , alternator power steering etc

Hi,
As elfion says it is probably the ancillary drive belt ,the alternator puts a high load on the system after cold starts and if the belt is worn it may slip under this load ,replacing the belt should solve this. All Mercedes engines have camchains which have a very long life if the engine oil and filters are changed regularly.

Should not mean a new belt, adjust the tensioner.
