Hi there, just found this forum and it looks good!

Anyway down to buisness, I recently bought a C230K 1997 sport, car is fantastic, fast and comfortable :D . Have a slight problem thar the car feels flat every now and again.

You put your foot down and it feels sluggish i.e. no whoosh from the blower and a distinct lack of power. dont think it can be anything too major as the car works fine most of the time.

From my deductions i think it is the supercharger bypass valve, it dumps the pressure produced by the blower back to the airbox under certain conditions, prob is i need to find out what these conditions are???? the air sensor after the intercooler?? the supercharger doesnt seem to have a temp sensor built in???

or is the valve defective??

any other experiences would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks

Hi there,

Don't think I can help too much!

Are the flat spots random or at particular rpm's?

I don't find mine lags as such, but does go better at different revs, however you can always hear the whine of the S/C.

The sensor after the intercooler you speak of is the MAS (Mass Air Sensor).

Mine went faulty recently (they are very sensitive) and cost me £211 + vat to replace. However the car is much improved now, mainly a much sharper throttle response. My car has 62K miles.

Your talk of bypass valves is very intersting, if you learn more please share.

Hi

Although the air mass sensor is the main culprit you should also get the fault codes red. This may save you a load of trouble.

As an aside for you people with compressors. If you get the same proble with the air mass sensor. Or even before you change it. Just check if the sensor is covered in oil. Did one the other day. Changed it 2k ago. Similar symptons. Oil all over the sensor. Cleaned it with brake cleaner. Refitted ok.

Don't start asking where the oil has come from? I have a number of ideas. But till I have the answer my lips are sealed.

Trouble with you lot, a little knowledge and you all go paranoid.!!!

I only mentioned the MAS as a side note, so don't want to get too side tracked, but for benefit of Andy:

This is the inside of my MAS - spotless!

I guess some die due to dirt, some just die!
