C240 with High Oil Consumption

Hi,

I have had a number of cars in the past ranging from a VW Beetle to a Rover 820 (Yes, I know! Bad mistake). None of them drink as much engine oil as my Merc. Its done 64K and is regulary using 1 litre every 1000 miles.

Anyone else had similar problems? If I take it to dealer, they will probably say its within tolerance!

I hardly ever had to top up my other cars (even the Rover!).

Any feedback much appreciated.

the V6's do use a bit of oil, but that is over the top. Better take it to a specialist to check out!

hi,

I think there have been some previous posts which linked oil consumption to having changed to synthetic oil too early before the engine was properly run-in on the initial factory-fill oil. I think that in this case the remedy was to switch back to a good mineral oil for a few thousand miles.

However, there may well be 100 different reasons, and the right one can only be determined by proper inspection.

I have a C240 sport with 70k on the clock. It uses Mobil one oil and very very rarely needs any topping up between services. I think you may have a problem.
