Hi all,

I've decided, (well, the wife has), to go for a cclass instead of the eclass. All fine so far and have found a couple of c220's that fit the bill.

One is a 2009 reg c220 cdi se (blueffic), the other is a 2010 reg c250 cdi blueffic amg sport. Both seem top condition but I know which one I like! (i drove them both). I'm waiting for the official MB service record for the c250, (weirdly MB wouldn't give it to me over the phone today, but did yesterday re another car so having to wait for the dealer to obtain it).

My first choice of course is the c250, but it's just shy of £14k and has done 68,000 miles. Seems in pretty good nick though, drives well. (Pokey too).

The second is a safer bet-the c220-it's done 42,000 and is £1,500 cheaper, but it doesn't have any bells or whistles like the sport. (but it does come with a years' MB tier1 warranty).

I'd really appreciate any advice from anyone who owns one of these, it's hard enough persuading bomber command that spending £14k on a car when she wants a Prius Tspirit-( tried it, it's going back to Toyota-sooo tinny, but kind of ok if you can't drive or hate driving).

Anything I should look for before I hand over my/her wonga?

Gears seemed ok. I'd take out a warranty on the c250....

Thanks in advance

get the sport. the non-sport variants seem a nightmare to sell on later! they also look better too! when im at a point where i can afford a 204, i will consider nothing other than the sport models

Why not get the VIN number for both and we can tell you what the spec is.

You need to drive them as well. sport may have a bit harder ride and more tyre noise with lower profile tyres. But its down to your choice. 250 will be more pokey of course.

c250 cdi sport

Hi,
Thanks for this guys, I did drive them both-the sport is the bomb-really goes and has lot's of spec-looks great too in Palladium silver-part leather seats, (boo-but ok), paddle shift, (whateva), folding mirrors etc. The ride is great whereas the c220 didn't move me literally and emotionally speaking.

The proof is in that first long journey right? I'm just concerned about the last owner-was he/she as careful as I am or did they gun it..... I don't want those big bills again!

Any tips on buying a warranty for a 68,000 miler? Think I've made my mind up to go for the c250 cdi sport and the wife has even begun to forgive me, nothing a weekend away without the kids won't cure and turning up in a c250 sport has GOT to beat turning up in a Prius.....

Thanks again. Back behind the wheel of a MB again after 2 hellish weeks in a Prius!

Is it worth going with Warranty direct, it will cost some £600 per year, I do not think so.

It depends on how you feel, can you find the cash to fix it if need be, 65k miles is not much and average, its only just 4 years old, very hard for me to answer for you. I took one out on my 216 but did not bother to renew it.

Ask them for a quote.

Ok, reassuring to hear, thanks Malcolm. I think I will take out a warranty for peace of mind. Warrantywise are offering just over £1k for 3 years cover for all work including 'wear' related work. That covers pretty much everything I believe. You can pay a little more for just using an MB garage, or stick with using your favourite indie approved.
Either way I'm happy, I just love these cars, I'm addicted.

Why is the dealer offering a tier 1 warranty on the older car? I think you need an answer to that before you part with your hard earned.

might be worth looking at Warranty Directs 'Light' warranty. It's way cheaper, the difference being that it will only cover the repair should the vehicle break down due to a component failure. To give some indication we have that on our family 'bus' (Galaxy)- 3 years cover c250 quid, the full cover was just shy of 500 quid per year! Again depends what comfort you want- If anything is likely to happen I am sure it could be a breakdown! Warranty Direct didn't advertise or offer the 'Light' version until I baulked at the normal annual cover and suggested I'd rather take te risk!

I'd haggle for a warranty on the c250.

Thanks all. The dealer offering the older car is MB, I think they all come with a 1 year warranty.
This one was last serviced by MB at 66,000 miles, (now 67,770).

I believe all approved used cars from MB have a years warranty. My CLS was extended by a month as the 3 year manufacturers warranty expires in December 2014.

Hi Malcolm,

The Chassis no. is: WDD2042032F565007

Will that be enough to do some research?

That's for the c250 cdi btw...

I moved your post containing the VIN to the decoder thread, check there for someone will provide a complete breakdown of the car's specification.

Ok, thanks everyone for all your help, this forum is great. After much deliberation I have just driven back my/(our), c250 cdi amg and I'm really really happy so far.

All good so far. Driving for a weekend away with the wife sans kids, can't wait to try her out, (the car that is).

Prius is being picked up tomorrow.

Thanks again.
