Hi, My wiper was sticking last week so I cleaned it and greased it. Now it is not reseting in the right place. It keeps stopping in the middle. Can anyone help me with this problem.
Hi, I had the exact same problem a couple of years ago. My local indy Merc specalist changed the gearing mechanism which is known to be a weakness on these single bladed Mercs. Cost me £230 which was a hell of a lot cheaper than Merc suggested. All in all though a great car and I wish I could find another!:
Hi my wiper did the same about 2 years ago..sticking in the middle and then not parking properly..all it needed was the slide oiling and then a merc specialist adjusted it so it parked correctly cost me 20 quid its been fine for 2 years..may need oiling again soon though hope this helps
Hi again. I now have a different problem with my miper. I think something is wrong with the mechanism. The wiper is not extending and retracting while it wipes. Instead it is just moving over and back while hitting over the edge of the windscreen at each side. Any ideas if I need a new mechanism or is there a cog or anything driving the mechanism that might be worn???
If you go back a few years on this forum you will find lots of data on this problem if you don't know how to get this info and you are unsure then contact our most senior member and i am sure he will talk you through it cheers eds.....
Be prepared for a long search
Ger2279,
If your wiper is able to move in and out independent of the drive mechanism you will have to remove the complete wiper motor/drive unit, this link shows how ; http://members.lycos.nl/mbenz/windshield_wiper.htm ;.
There may be 3 reasons for lost drive if the motor is running,(1)the large nut on the back of the drive head may have slackened (2)the nylon gear inside the drive head is slipping on it's shaft(3)the nylon gear has stripped. The first is just a matter of resynchronising the wiper and tightening the nut, the second can be repaired by drilling through the gear and shaft then fitting a roll-pin to stop it slipping, but if the gear has stripped the drive head will need to be replaced as the gear is not available separately.
Hope this helps.
