C280 V6 Starter Motor.

I have been told that the starter motor on this model is difficult to get at being high up at the back of the engine up against the bulkhead.

Before I go crawling underneath is this so or is it in a more 'normal' position and relatively easy to get at?

The problem I have is that the motor engages and then on occasions dissengages almost immediately with a loud metallic ring. Some lubrication required an expert tells me?

All I know is it's well hidden on my straight six 280. I have seen other strings on this in the past. Have a go with the search function. I suspect you'll end up using copious amounts of MB grease on the starter ring. Get yourself some WD-40/plus-gas type releasing oil before you start the job and give any visible nuts/bolts/screws you know you'll have to remove a good soaking the night before.
