c32 gearbox

hi, MB has just informed me that i need a new gearbox, only have the car 3 months!! 2002 model with 45k on it.

It is a C32 AMG, the car was stuck in 2nd gear for a bit, the gear box has been a bit shaky took it in to mb, luckily it is under warranty. Mb have offered to pay 75% of the cost of a new gearbox 'as a good will gesture'! this must be a common fault for them to do this?

if its under warranty, why do you have to pay any cost towards the repair?

A 2002 model is well out of warranty

But if he bought it used from a MB dealer, wouldnt it be fully covered by the one year warranty?

If he has bought from MB then yes as long as it has covered <100,000 miles they give 12 months warranty. I don't see anywhere in the above that he has bought from MB. I do see mention to it's under warranty, but what type of warranty, IMHO only the MB ones is of any use.
