Hi, I’m new to the site and am having trouble with my w204 c320cdi, warning lights are on for my ESP and when trying to read faults, there is no communication with esp module n30/4, two faults in engine related to no communication with abs/esp unit. All fuses ok, power and earth to esp unit ok. Anyone here seen this problem or may be able to help. Have tried new second hand unit and still no communication. Thanks in advance

Hello to all, my first post here, I happen to have a similar problem, just got the car and it says that there is a problem with the ABS and the ESP, which I guess are related. Any info welcomed.

Hi, unfortunately no warranty. I got it for a good price, way lower than any garage or trade seller.

It is in good shape, full history, 100,000 miles. Cero corrosion. So I hope to being able to fix this error, and trust that it will be a dependable car!

You need the codes read by a competent garage with a competent scanner. Too many posts of people haveing the codes read without a clue of what they mean and spending lots of money for a simple fix.
Stab in the dark will mean throwing money at until you eventually reach the failure by luck. Like all things one element will usually casue failure. DO it once and you will be happy.

It could be a number of things.
If you are lucky it is just a sensor that has failed -- there is one at each wheel plus a steering wheel and yaw sensor (probably others too).
The sensors aren't too expensive generally and reasonably easy to fit. The rings on the axles that the speed sensors read are cheap to buy but more difficult (expensive) to fit.

As has been already said, you will need to have it scanned to identify what is actually wrong though. A Merc specialist is the way to go - no more expensive than a regular garage but much more knowledgeable about MBs.

If you're really lucky it will be the brake switch (which is 2 switches in one).
If you're unlucky it could be an ABS unit.
Many other things are possible as well.
Proper diagnosis will prevent wasting money guessing.

Thanks. Just found their website. Are their prices reasonable? I do think it is the best idea to go to a specialist, but at the same time I have to think about the budget. I'm used to do stuff myself, and have a friend who is very good with most mechanical stuff. So I'm looking to find a reasonable balance.

A MB Specialists costs No more than a normal garage.
Call them and ask their pricing.

It’s not about mecHanical noose it’s about knowi how to use a code reader and finding a fault based on experience.

Thank you, yes definitely. I agree.

My point mentioning about the mechanical stuff was merely about I'm used to pay next to nothing for most things (having to pay only for parts), so I'm kind of scared about the costs! Haha just that
