Hello,

So I think I have my heart set on a w205 C63S, just need to save up a little more cash and hope they drop a little further (I notice the w204 c63 seems to be increasing if anything now) and it should be possible. Originally I wanted to spend £20k on something but nothing ticked my boxes like the c63 so seems I now need to go 30k+ (even at that price range the c63 is way ahead for me), I really want a v8 in my next car but most v8 cars are way too big in size/weight.

I have a few questions if I may :)

- The S has switchable exhaust but it also has the option for a sports/performance exhaust and it's a bit louder when open and also means you can use it in loud mode when in comfort, and is a must have option it seems - right?
- The bucket seats and burmester are a must for me personally, but otherwise nothing stands out as a 'must have' (excluding paint colour/wheel choice) - HUD would be nice, but nothing else I should seek?
- I struggled to find any buyers guides/common problem info, they seem pretty solid and I do very low mileage but how important is a warranty? I did a quote for a 2015 50k car at it was almost £3k per year from MB, given I tend to keep cars around 5 years it means I'd have spent £15k+ on the warranty cover! I can get 3rd party for £120PM but max 5k per claim and I'd assume 3rd party ones might be more hassle with claims. I've never hard a warranty on any car, but my cars have been in the sub 15k price range (currently have a s4 b8 and its been rock solid for 5 years) but feels a bit risky with a 30k+ car not to have a warranty.
- I've read the brakes can be pricey, especially the rears? What is a rough cost for discs and pads (front price and a rear price), £600 fronts £800+ rears?
- Service costs, rough specialist prices for these, I'm assuming £300 for basic service and £600+ for the bigger one? I saw the MB service 'b' included gearbox work, is that needed every 2 years or such? (never had an auto before) I probably do 3k per year but I like to service at 12 month intervals just to keep the oil fresh etc..
- Assume a ghost alarm is a very wise thing to get fitted from the off

Greatly appreciate any replies :)

From what I have read on both UK MB forums, the switchable exhaust is a "must have"
The MB warranty is silly money and I'd be inclined to put by £3K every year and if you don't need it you have saved yourself £3k. The following year you'd have £6k. That is what I do for my E63 Biturbo with a similar cost for an MB warranty. I wouldn't consider one from anywhere else. Too many get out clauses.

With regard to servicing, wait until you have a B service due ( the more expensive) then take out a 3 yr service plan so you get a B/A/B service. With extras like ATF, plugs brake fluid on top of a basic oil change its worth it. For an A service I would expect £300 - £400 and a B service anything from £600 upwards depending on mileage/age related item mentioned above. A 3 yr plan should be around £1500 - £1800 all in.

Brakes are pricey so check the condition of the discs before buying .

I have Autowatch Ghost and find the extra security comforting although I realise car thieves have probably cracked ghost by now.

They do seem to be pretty bomb proof. I am on my second C63 biturbo (non S model). One of my best pals has a C63s, and I maintain it for him. I can't live with the seats in the S model. I have a dodgy back, and although they look the part, 20 mins for me and I'm cursing. I have my non S remapped to 595bhp, and it's incredible. My pal borrowed it the other day and now says his S feels rubbish. He keeps nagging me to get his mapped the same!
