Hi

I'm considering changing to from my W124 E280 to a 300D multivalve, but I'm not sure if the diesel is really going to be economical enough to justify the change. I'm getting around 23mpg on my daily run (town and A roads) and around 28 on a run if I'm lucky. What would that translate to with a 300D?
Any replies greatly received.

Thanks

Probably about 28 and 35-40 but it depends on your driving style and the condition of the car.

Mine (not multivalve) does 35 mpg @ 80 mph, 30 mpg @ 90 mph, German Autbahn of course.
Run it on veg oil and the saving is quite substantial over you E280.

Well either mines got lots of speedo error (don't think so) or it's super frugal....

I have filled her up twice so far and got...
39.8 going to silverstone (motorway cruise at 70-80).
38.5 going to town and back, country roads taking it easy at 60-65ish.

Frankly i can hardly believe it, however put it this way, last time i took a car to Silverstone it was in my grannys 1.6 corrola and i put 5 more Ltrs in that compared to the E300D when i returned it. NB Mine does not have A/C.

Hello

There are other things to consider.

Swapping a car you know for one you don't could incur extra bills.

Derv more expensive so the saving not as great.

How about Gas in the 280?

40mpg then and petrol power :)

My 1995 300D Multivalve gives me 30-32 mpg around town and 35-36 mpg on a run.

On a recent 440 mile trip from Aylesbury to Dundee, I just cracked the 40 mpg barrier by driving gently and strictly observing all speed limits. Brim to brim it was 40.4 mpg.

The car has covered 120,009 miles.
