Hello folks
I'm getting very impatient with the E55 and its oil leak. As some of you know I posted a while back and got some useful info as to possible causes. Well over the weekend I decided to change the cam cover gasket myself. Drivers side is the one causing the problem and the leak is at the back, dribbling down on to the manifold and then smoking.
I've had various suggestions; breathing problems and worn pistons. However, The car drives A1, goes well, doesnt smoke at all, idles well, no pressure from oil cap when removed and no pressure from dip stick when removed. I've checked the 2 breather pipes which go from the cam cover in to the airfilter housing and no smoking or spitting of oil etc
No one seems to know what the problem is and I'm going mental. Now the only clue I can give which may be related is that the dipstick tends to pop out by about half a cm when driven hard. So I suspect it is defo a breathing/crank case pressure problem but where? It surely can't be the rocker cover as it has now been replaced by a specialist and also myself but has the leak from the same spot.
I am refusing to take the car to any other joker mechanic claiming to be a specialist and need to do this myself. I even got in touch with another reputable garage in solihull who 'didnt want to take this job on board as it may get messy'.
Is there any way or method that allows me to carry our a full check to make sure all pipes are unblocked? does anyone have any diagrams as to which pipes to check?
Surely there must be an old school method of checking the breathing??
Any advice, no matter how small, would be welcome as i really am at the end of my tether with both mercedes specialists and dealers.
