I have a w140 320 with a gearbox that slips between gears, can I use a gearbox from the earlier chassis type (pre 91 ?). If so does it have to be from a specific model.

any help appreciated.

what year is your 140? The early ones (pre 95ish) had the same box as the 126 series, the later ones have an electronic box, that isnt swappable like that..

you might well find that an E320 box would be the same as well...

this model

The car is a 320 1992 with a 140 chassis, the gearbox i have been offered is from a 126 chassis. Will this fit and does it matter which engine size the gearbox is removed from?

What engine size is it from the 126?

The most important thing is the number on the side of the box - it should be somthing like 722.412 - if they are the same, it will fit. The last two numbers are less relevant then the first four (722.4xx)
