Can I mix LRP and 4-Star?

Hurrah! A garage down the road has just started selling 4-star leaded, which will be very welcome for my 190e 2.3-16v which has had to be running on LRP for the last few years!

Can anybody let me know if it is alright to just wait until my tank is nice and low (currently it is still full of LRP) and then top it up with 4-star? Also, and this might seem ridiculous, will it be ok going straight back to 4-star? It won't be too much of a shock to the old boys system will it?!

Finally, what will the actual benefits be of using 4-star as opposed to Tesco LRP?! I'd like to think the car will benefit some way from the damage it will do to my wallet!

you should be able to mix it if the octane rating is the same or higher for the 4*...not sure what the benefit will be apart from the lead in the air to bring some much needed balance to the ever greener and therfore less polluted enviroment.

am sure some member will explain the full benefits of 4* and maybes mention about timings and stuff that i dont know anything about.

if i do remember right, 4* burns at a slightly lower temperature.

You can mix the two petrol's without any problems.....

Im impressed to hear that a new garage is offering real 4 star ( and in London from your profile).

Can I ask how much it costs per litre?

I'm impressed too! It's £1.15 per litre, which although is by no means cheap, it only adds on about £13 per tank (£63 instead of £50) and as I don't go through more than one tank a month it shouldn't break the bank.
