Hope someone can help here. I spotted a dark green (non-metallic) M Reg Merc I've never seen before the other day. It looked like a more chunky and angular precursor to the Kompressor, but did not have any signs of identification at its rear. The only thing written was on the near side panel, "V12". It was a very distinctive and beautiful car, and I'd like to find out more. Can anyone give me any information on this model, please, that's if the description is enough to go on?

Many thanks in anticipation.

It could be any number of cars but you need to be more specific. Was it a sports model, a coupe or a saloon?

I'd hazard a guess that it was a 600 W140 CL Coupe but its only a stab in the dark.

Thanks for the reply, Spike. Sorry I couldn't provide a better description there. This was a brief encounter, though it was definitely not a saloon, or a coupe similar to the one you posted. I would hazard a guess that it was a sports model, as there seemed little boot to speak of. As I said previously, the nearest thing to it I've seen is the SLK Kompressor. It just looked a more dated version. You might guess I'm no expert on cars!

Cheers, Pete

Thanks. I think it was something along these lines. I had a look at a few more r129s and this was pretty close to what I remember. Will delve further. Cheers

Did they ever make a V12 W129 though?

You say this V12 was beautiful - if it was, then it MUST be an R129 SL600.

Doubt a W140 CL600 could ever be classified as beautiful. Those CL's take some getting used to....they look great from behind, but the front end is absolutely horrid.

Hi Jay,

No, I have the saloon S320 W140 - the saloons look ok, but I wouldn't buy the Coupe purely because of it's shape/front end looks.

The CL is a fantastic car in every respect except it's looks - which is what let the car down so much. In years to come, it will never be a classic...like the W126 560SEC will be, because it is one of the most beautiful coupes MB/Bruno Sacco ever designed.
