My front pads need renewing soon - Is there a type that I can buy that leave a minimum of brake dust - I hate cleaning it off!!! I find "vanish" quite good - don't know if it does any harm to the alloys?
Thanks J

if you put them in back to front that would help with the dust - unfortunatly the side affects can be catastrophic and you get a lot of front end damage. so I would put up with the dust.

EBC green stuff pads are supposed to be much better for this, never used 'em i just was the car weekly including the wheels, dirt doesn't get ingrained so no problem to shift.

I've toyed with green stuff meself before, but passing by GSF mainsite at Castle Bromwich regularly i've just never got round to it.

Where do you get them from please Malcolm?

My lad uses Reds on his unbelievably quick Subaru, it does stop unbelievably quickly too, 10 miles in the thing can leave you feeling quite ill with the various G forces involved...not for me.

I totally agree about the merits of Green/Red stuff Pads..
Green stuff in particular are kinder to the discs as they have Kevlar in the pad material rather than chunks of metal.

Either direct from EBC on line or if you google search brakes for you used to do them a touch cheaper

Would you be inclined to use EBC Redstuff or Greenstuff on the front of a SL55 AMG?

I had the racing black pads on my V70R, thats the racing version, but far too hard for road use, so I took them out and fitted the red ceramic, the bite is amazing, the car just wants to stop, so I fitted them to a 129 that I had, and once again outstanding.
When my disc went down on the SL500 they were out of stock of the reds, so I took the green again, as you know the 230's have outstanding brakes and they have been good, but I will replace them with the red in a few months time, both back and front. Re wearing the disc, I have been 12000 miles now on the replacement Zimmerman Disc and no wear to speak of, but just a slight glaze, you do not get that on the red.

The nice thing is how clean the wheels stay, you do get dust but it just washes off, and I use a washing up brush to clean the insides, dead easy.

So it sounds to me like you prefer the Red's over the Green's.

Which would give off the least amount of dust do you think?

What are Zimmerman discs?

There is little in it, the red dust is more brown than black.

Zimmerman disk ??

Just looking around to see if there was an alternative to MB disc I spoke to my local motor factor, and they said that they could get them at £98 the pair, so I bought them. On fitting I found the all stampings and numbers were identical to the ones that I was taking off.

I am not sure but ai think that on AMG car the drilled holes are pointing in in the forward mode, where as on mine they are not, one is of coarse

Be aware of the power of your car when ordering the pads - <200bhp for greenstuff & >200bhp for redstuff.
