Hi all, quick question (I think I know the answer already!) but can you tow with a Merc CLS and is there a tow bar option for it (aftermarket) Ive had a quick search on here and a blast round tinternet but havent seen much info, which kinda leads me to thinking the answer is NO!

Comments?

CLS? TOWING? No! No! No! - That is SO wrong on every level

Buy a cheapo euro-box and tow with THAT - but NEVER, EVER, EVER with a 3-pointed star on the bonnet. Pretty Please? :(

LOL, I guessed that would be the first answer I got back! Yes you do have a point! After taking the kids camping a couple of times this year already Im really struggling with space in the old W210, Im thinking of changing it anyway and really like the CLS, theres only the 3 of us, me, my son and daughter so could get away with a 4 seater, I like the 535d but not sure I can stray away from the 3 pointed star!

Thanks for putting me straight! ;)

You can get roof bars for the CLS - what about roof bars and a topbox? Better option than towing IMHO.

this thread deserves a pic of my outfit:

especially for all you caravan-opposed members out there :)

a quick search comes up with:

CLS 4 DOOR COUPE 05- NO TOWBAR ALLOWED

check your car's manual?

do a google search for "cls towbar" comes up with lots of info

i may be wrong though!

if towing is allowed with the vehicle (will be in the manual), but you just cant get a towbar, there are companies that will make up one for you i'm sure if you really still need to tow with it.

you must ensure its legal though

Blimey, Thats some rig youve got there Silversaloon! Im not planning on towing a van, especially a twin axle job like yours, Im just starting the whole camping lark up again after a break of about 15 years (the wife didnt do camping, she left me and the children last year so I thought sod it, the rest of my family go camping / trailer tenting so I will get back into it and weve had some nice breaks away, its just a real squeeze packing everything into a W210, which im thinking of changing and liked the look of the CLS (amonst other cars) - thanks for everyone whos responded so far, I like the humourous tone of the thread......satans chariot!!! LOL - we will have Clarkson on here soon!

Yeah, Ive been looking for a tow bar now for a couple of days with no luck, bit strange really as I would have thought a CLS would have been a good tow car!
