Just a thought: Does the ML have an option to limit the max speed when winter tyres are fitted? If so, has this become inadvertently engaged?

As the battery has been taken off I think that you have something there

no winter tyres as of yet .... and i've tried it with the limiter on so the lim light comes on the dash and with the lim light off ... i've even turned the lim off when its off thinking maybe thats the fault but no joy... i heard somewhere that taking the battery of for a long while resets the car back to factory setting and one of these is a speed limit of 14kph i.e just under 80mph???

I feel that the time has come to 'bite the bullet' - and throw yourself at the mercy of a MB Dealership.

If you get a result - please let the Forum know the outcome.

Good Luck

I think your first port of call should be the garage that removed the battery to do the work, it could be that they had to disconnect various things to access the area they were working in and possibly, inadvertantly, didnt put everything back as it was.....

.........the 'maf' isnt too far from the battery area, check that the plug is still connected as they may have removed the air box and forgot to reconnect the maf.. (this would disable the turbo and also prevent 'kickdown).

I suspect that for £30 they simply reconnected the plug back into the maf as per my previous post above...........

At that price you are probably correct, but no doubt it took a little time to figure that it was disconnected and 30 quid is a fair price, for time alone, compared to what MB were quoting.

Glad it's sorted though.

I have used these people to service and look after my small fleet:

For future reference as you've got the problem fixed now.
