hi

my car a merc 230ce auto had poor acceleration until i got the coil pack replaced.it seems to have sorted the problem out to a large extent.however when the car is at a standstill at a giveway or at the lights it shakes a little, as if the engine is about to stall, but it does not stall.

any ideas what it could be?

car has been serviced.

I experienced a similar feeling in a W124 200 which had 342,000km (170,000miles?) on. The car shuddered when in "D" and standing still (foot on the brake). According to the mechanic it was the engine mountings. I haven't confirmed whether the problem has been solved though

i've seen the same thing on a very un-cared for merc 200 (diesel) from 1987. the engine mountings on one side were completly worn out and when idle the car shook pretty badly (and noisely).

get under the car and inspect the rubber mountings that hold the engine legs in place (should be two of them mid to back of the engine bay), in this case the one on the right hand side was knackered and repaired with (dont laff, it wasnt my car and i didn't do the repair) black silicon glue !

cheers
