Cause of gearbox safe mode in E320cdi?

About 1 time in 50 my E320cdi starts up in gearbox safe mode i.e. 3rd gear and no gear changes. It reverts to normal after engine restart. Diagnostics reveal P1470, P2502 and P2600 faults. My usual Merc independents aren't too sure what to replace. Can anybody help, please?

If always ok on a restart then do check the battery voltage, if the car is not used that much then do charge the main battery well at least once a month

Are they using STAR?

Its a 722.6 gearbox so nice and easy to diagnose with the right kit. If there is a low voltage as fault code then the battery will be duff as Malc said. Actual values will tell you if the electro plate is playing up too.

It shouldnt be too difficult.

Battery is 5-year top of range Varta, replaced last year. Cranks enthusiastically. My independent has STAR so I'll get him to spend more time when he returns from Thailand! Last year he suspected EGR. Recent 'diagnosis' was from non specialist. Thanks for your help.

Those Varta AGMs are good for 10 years in most cases
