Given the choice of a c200K or c220CDI, which will be the better car?

I have driven a CDI and immediately noticed how driveable it is with the massive torque.  I know that the 200k will be a real buzz revving it hard and racing about, but for regular use on the road I am uncertain whether the CDI will be a better bet?

Any thoughts?

CDI or Kompressor?

Dave

for general use my preference would be the CDi.  You'll get near petrol engine performance coupled with diesel economy, and all that torque!   If you want a bit more zip you could add a performance module to increase power and torque even further - and probably still get better economy than a C200K.

Have a search through this forum as there was a recent thread about these upgrades - I think it was Richard W who did this to his CDi and was more than happy with the result.

Hope this helps.

CDI or Kompressor?

I would go for the cdi , fuel is not getting any cheaper and you will get a lot more back at resale.

C220 cdi is great.

CDI or Kompressor?

Dave,

After a C36 I'm not sure either would come close!

I'm very impressed with my diesel, I bought it in Feb this year with 32K on and was a little dissappointed with the drivability. The step in the power delivery was pronounced and whislt it was doing 39/40mpg the lurching on/off boost was not what I expected from a Merc. Also the ashmatic feel did not encourage revs above 3000. To put this into perspective I am being critical here as my experience of diesel in the past is the superb VAG unit in a Golf.

Since then the story has changed completely, I now own a diesel powered missile! With the addition of a tuning module from DMS (they import the Alpin box) the driveability has been transformed. he torque comes in much earlier, the engine now revs to the red line, etc etc. Yes there is a small increase in the smoke produced on hard acceleration but you've already left the scene!

I would suggest after a recent 95-100 mph run which over 260 miles it was still doing 38mpg that the diesel is the most usable day to day machine. It's quiet, refined comfortable and handles well so the only advantage of having a petrol 200K is a marginal improvement (if any? LOL!) on the 0-60......(don't forget I do mean compared to a chipped diesel)

Why not look for a 270 CDi apparently with a chip in those really are C32 chasers! :)

Hope this helps

CDI or Kompressor?

Thanks for the opinions guys, I will not be changing my c36 fo ages, but my Brother is thinking of changing his CDI for a new 200K.  I have been suggesting that he should stick to the CDI!
