"Cheap" Map Updates

Just had an email through from MB this afternoon and they are offing Map Updates to 2017 / 2018 Europe maps on COMAND, Audio50APS and Garmin systems for £99 inc VAT. Not the cheapest, but still a good price to get your car up to date.

I suspect its the same con as before, tried on mine, car booked in, turned up at dealers and they then said it would be £240 or £270 cant remember which. Thanked them for wasting my time and walked out... This was after checking on the phone when booking it would be £99.

By all means try it, just confirm the price, I think its from £99

Cheapest I’ve had for COMAND maps was £110 all in on my w212. That was last year at Peterborough branch.

Stratford did my GL for £100 a couple of years ago. £99 does not sound impossible, but of course, yes, caveat emptor.

I wouldn’t go as far as queuing round the block. Even at that price it is extortion. For my current BMW for example, map updates are £70 for 2 years and you do them via a USB stick. And I bet BMW are making more than Mercedes off maps due to price point as well.

Interesting point, my son does circa 15k miles p.a. business miles and is adamant his BMW Nav system has never let him down, take note MB, his lease is due in the next 6 months and this fact will probably be the deciding factor as to whether he stays with BMW

What is tragic is you can pretty much buy an European Tom Tom for similar cash......

I got the same email the day after my car was in for service at the main dealers. And as the car is under three years old I thought map updates were free of charge. Each time the car has been into the dealership I've been told the car is all up to date but I bet that wouldn't stop them from relieving me of the 99 quid of their fantastic offer.

I also got this email, seems like it's just being sent out randomly really as mine is just about 12 months old and is currently in the process of updating itself automatically over the air.

I'd be a little miffed if all of a sudden I had to start paying for maps when it's supposed to be free for the first 3 years.

I was always told this with my last car when it was under warranty/free updates, but insisted that they checked and updated them anyway. Funny that they eventually always found an update available when pressed...

Definetely free for the first three years, as is traffic subscription which you can pay thereafter ( I just bought another 2 years)
