Well at last the moment arrived today, and waking up this morning I felt like a 6 year old child on Christmas morning!

I drove across to Doncaster to exchange my car, deposit some funds into the garage's account, and pick up my CL600. The massage seats have been fixed, as has the rear blind, car nicely polished and valetted, and then for a nice drive back to Liverpool.

After a search for a new motor, which included amongst others an Aston Martin Vantage, Bentley Continental, Range Rover Vogue and BMW X6, the decision to opt for the CL was definitely a wise one. And ok, it then became my intent to go for a CL500, but then after experiencing the CL63, it's with much thanks that Malcolm put me right about the CL600, and perhaps that may be the one to tick all the boxes for me........and how right he was!

The performance and acceleration is something else, especially for something so big, and while retaining such luxurious comfort, there can't be many cars out there that can compete. The drive back home was predominantly motorway, but some A and B roads too, where I did put it through it's paces, but after the 100 mile journey the car gave me an average of 16.8mpg. I suppose that's not too bad really.

I still feel there could be an issue in terms of a little rumbling at times, whether engine mounts or a misfiring cylinder? But I'll go with it for a bit, see how it goes, and maybe take it to a local specialist to have a quick look.

The salesman couldn't figure how to pair my phone to the bluetooth device, which was disappointing, but the car was bought from a Jaguar dealership, so I will forgive him that, and their service has been excellent. But I'll take a look through the manual to figure that, or failing it, perhaps seek some further advice here.

All in all, definitely the right decision to go for the CL, and fuel bills apart, the right decision to opt for the 600. I've test driven a few 500's and C63's, been extremely cautious, steering clear of anything I've just felt not right, and again it was definitely worth biding my time until both my head and my heart were telling me "this is the one". And guess what........this is the one!

And finally, after a rather long thread I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to my post with their advice and experience of CL's, it's been much appreciated!

Oh, and come the weekend I'll post a few photographs of the car.

Cheers,
Mark.

Hey, you got there. Welcome to the club! The Bluetooth maybe that it doesn't do full integration and you need something like a viseeo adaptor to get the phone to do more than just contacts

Thanks Director. There is a bluetooth adapter in the armrest compartment, plugged in, blue light flashing, so unless you're referring to something else I'm sure it's probably just the pairing issue.

Things were all a little frantic over there, picking up the car with my three nephews in tow too, so when I get some time to play with the functions I'm sure I'll be able to sort it........famous last words!

Congratulations on your purchase. CL600s are wonderful. It would be well worth having the car checked over by a trusted local specialist - I think a couple of recommendations were posted earlier in the thread. From what you've told us of the car's history, it's probably been a while since it was near a Star diagnostics machine.

I would be interested to know how you heard about the car. It didn't come up on any of the usual searches.

Yeah I think it may be worth my while, and money well spent to have a decent diagnostics run on the car.

As for how I heard about the car........after searching various sites morning, afternoon and evening, every day for probably two months, the CL600 appeared out of the blue one afternoon on Autotrader. During my time searching previously there hadn't been another 600 for sale, and after test drives of 500's and 63's, combined with some good advice here, and a car that looked right, sounded right, from a reputable national dealership and at an amazing price I had to strike.

There was interest from a couple of other prospective buyers, but with the car still on the garage ramp having an inspection, I made sure I was the first to view when it was out on the forecourt the next morning. I drove 100 miles, setting off at 6am to make sure I was there even before the garage opened. And the rest as they say is history.

More enjoyable driving today, and although the pace is something else out of the car, I just love taking it easy, letting the car cruise effortlessly. :)

As an aside, to those CL drivers........what manufacturer/grade of oil do you use?

The service booklet information isn't helpful, but I can see that Mobil One has been used in the past when having oil changes. But the grade hasn't been noted.

I read up last night people referring to 5W/40 fully synthetic, but I called into Halfords earlier, and seeing their reference chart it referred me to Mobil One New Life 0W/40 fully synthetic.

So, does anyone know which one is best? Will either do the job? And if the top up oil is different from the current oil then will it cause any problems?

Sorry for sounding so dumb here, but I don't want to take any chances here!

Most people use 0W 40 these days, I do, I can't see the point of 5W 40 ? All that means is that it's slightly more viscous when cold

Thanks SL55 Mark. It looks like the Mobil One New Life is the one then. Cheers.

I think possibly the culmination of this ongoing post should be posting of some photo's. I'm sorry for the delay, as been so busy in work, but at long last I now provide a few photo's for your viewing. Your comments and thoughts would be more than welcomed, but I for one know I've bought a special car here. It's only been a few days since I got the car, but it's surpassed all expectations, which given the high standard you lot set for me, is some going. Anyway, I hope you like the car........

What a great thread...seemed to pass me by somehow so I missed any input, was a good read...

Car looks fantastic Mark, the W216 is a superb luxury cruiser, I did own a
W215, the CL's do feel special when you drive around in one...I have driven a few Bentley GT's and its really hard to choose...W216 is on my list for the future all being well:D

I can vouch for MBtech in Warrington, they have looked after all 7 of my MB's...they are trained ex MB Liverpool road range techs, and have latest MB STAR diagnostics...ask for Shane or Will.
