Hi Guys,

I'm very interested in buying a 2000/01 CL500. I know they've depreciated big time since new, but what do you think is to come? I'm looking to spend around £28K, which from what I've seen will get my something under 40K miles with all the trimmings. I don't want to end up with a £20K car after another year etc. I know this depends on the miles, condition etc, but I just want a rough guide.

Also, has anyone had experience of getting these serviced by Mercedes? How much would I be looking at for inspection A and B?

Many Thanks.

- Lee.

As it is still the current model,

It will not depreciate as quickly.

It is a desirable car compared to it's predecessor (regarding looks). But I stil feel that it will still depreciate further in the next few years, even before the next model is introduced.

This is a very complex car, so if your heart is set on one, sevice history, warranty etc., would be top on my list.

That is exactly what you will end up with. A £20K car. Is the £28K a dealer price or a private sale. You never win with dealers.

Absolutely.
If the screen price is 28k you driving 22k's worth as soon as you sign the paperwork. It's why I have never understood people who buy cars and run them for less than 3 years - the first year depereciation is just paying off the dealer's profit!

The one I'm interested in is from an independent dealer. £28K for a 2001 with 37K(full MB history), most of the extra's and in good condition. It's black with the Java leather, one of the better combinations I think. What do you reckon? Is this too pricey? What do you think it'll be worth in a year?

Cheers.
