ah ha. I tell a lie. It remembers the last setting you left on the air-con-off button - so when you get in the car the next time if you left it with the air-con off it starts off with that setting.

This is an improvement on what I thought it was doing. I'd still prefer the light off when the air-con is off - but at least I don't have to re-set it every time I get in the car.
In a CL, the AC compressor runs continually anyway, the cabin function switch only allows the duo valve to be fed the cold air or not. But the effect on mpg is permanent.

So. It's all done.

One Kenwood DMX-5020 DABS head unit together with some Audison APK165 and APX5 Prima speakers - an amp for the sub-woofer - a bunch of cabling, adaptors and other stuff and nearly 10 hours work (not by me) - all for the bargain price of £2K.

Accutek in Winchester did the work - very pleased - sounds fantastic - and has apple-play etc.

Thanks for all your input.

I am. I just wish there was an easy way to be able to add the youtube app onto the system - apple don't include such an app on their store (health and you know what reasons) - and on-line you have to jump through millions of hoops to 'jailbreak' the phone and it looks tricky and knowing me I'd end up messing up my phone completely. But it would be nice so maybe I'll give it a try. Not that I want to watch videos on it - but there are so many interesting talks on youtube that it would be nice to access. We'll see.

OK - so here's a question for you all....

One of my fog lamp glasses has shattered (the one on the passenger side) - on looking for a new one I am seeing them listed but they say 'left' but don't make it very clear what they mean by 'left'. To me I want a 'left' one because that's the passenger side the way I think about it.

See here: https://www.sparepartstore24.co.uk/1501048-tyc

Looking at that lamp it looks like a drivers side one - which is NOT what I want - to me that's a 'right' hand fog lamp not a left hand one - but they list it as a left hand one - so I am kind of thinking when they say 'left' they mean when looking at the car not sitting in it.

Any ideas anybody?

Cheers.

James.

I'm getting the feeling this is a standard fit and you can fit them to the left OR the right.

It's not very clear though!

Before I spend my hard earned money could somebody straighten me out here?

OK so now I am thinking they're not the same and I need a 'right' hand one. Even though it's on the passenger side.

But again - I'm not clear. When they say 'right' which f**g side do they actually mean?????

As you sit in the drivers seat .
I’m sure they are “sided” , I bought some cheaper ones for my E class a couple of years ago

OK - this place makes it clear. And they don't mention left or right which suits me just fine.

Cheers!

Driving one of these cars is an event - pure and simple - but potentially ruinous.

Know the rusk, buy cheap, check it thoroughly and then be prepared to pay to fix it or scrap it depending on how it goes!
It’s good and fit to describe me about handling my CL. Excellent thread, Gentleman.

I'm with you on this. What price do you put on enjoyment? I've always maintained that value is in the eye of the beholder anyway, and whatever a theoretical book value is, it's just that, nothing more. It's ok saying it's a £3k car, but find one at that price and it'll be a junker and there are plenty out there. An enthusiast or a dealer with a very good car won't sell at £3k. Nothing beats giving the car a good look at, together with the service history. Where does sense come into buying an old vehicle anyway:D?
Counted by life philosophy, every single experiences and, how many lesson learnt before.
