CLA250e battery charge in sport mode

Hi all,

I have the possibility of getting a CLA250e as a company car, but having a fuel card makes charging it at home pointless as it will be at my expense.

If i leave it in sport mode, which I’m led to believe leaves the petrol engine permenantly on, will it charge itself enough to keep the battery alive in order to achieve the performance figures quoted?

What i dont really want is a relatively gutless petrol engine lugging around a heavy dead battery making the performance awful. I have little interest in running in purely electric mode, but will the peteol engine keep the battery alive all the time to assist with the performance or will it just eventually die?

Hello and welcome

Ah the benefits of a company car...

Get a “e” so the BIK is manageable then use it on ICE only to reduce your costs...

I’d take one for a decent drive, it should go pretty well and with a decent enough journey keep the battery up.

Be advised though the quoted figures are only attainable in a wind tunnel and in no way recreatable in the real world.
Also cold weather kills electric range.

I guess im not fussed about hitting the exact 0-60 time of 6.8sec or whatever it is, i just dont want the battery to be constantly dead making it dreadfully slow. Im coming from a 300bhp leon cupra with pretty good performance, so either way im going to notice the difference!

The battery in a self charge hybrid presumably doesnt die, killing the performance so would this be the same? I do around 60-70 miles per day, would that keep it charged?

Like i say im not fussed about fully electric range, more the battery supplementing the petrol engine at all times.

Mercedes don’t make “Sports Cars” (AMG GT is the exception). They’re more about the whole experience. Having said that the CLA is not a regular Mercedes being front wheel drive with a lot of Renault bits in...
Still a very nice place to spend your time. That amount of miles per day should be sufficient but they’re a bit too new to feature on the forum so not a great deal of experience of them and they’re performance.

So.....as your company will benefit get them to install a charge point at home at their expense.

The charger comes with a meter installed near your consumer unit which records charge used.

Which would support an expense claim? Win win as they would pay less petrol....and help the environment etc....

Running in Sports will recharge the battery in hybrid mode as well as combining the electrical motor with the ICE to give the best 'performance'. You won't save the environment nor any money of course for your company, so as Robin above why not get a pod point installed at home (unless you live in a flat or something of course)....
