There is a "How to" guide in the DIY section.

Isopropyl Alcohol is what POD used and is available from Maplins, CPC, RS, Farnell and quite a few other places.

Be truthful cleaning the MAF on petrol engines seldom does any good, the sensor / hot wire goes out of spec due to the micro dust particles bombarding them.

In the case of diesels the air flow is much greater than for petrol, if the are no oily deposits then change it

Your local dispensing chemist can order and supply you with IPA/isopropanol, they may have ask you to sign in the poison register for it.

Hi, the car in question is a 51 320 cdi estate which is cutting out under acceleration. I have changed the throttle pedal sensor to no avail and I don't suppose cleaning the MAF will do any good but I have to try before surrendering to the local merc dealer. I am replacing the air filter today which looks as if it is the original. The car has a full MB history and I have checked all the reciepts and nowhere is there a charge for a new air filter. The car has done 124,000, gives me a lot of confidence in the people servicing these cars. Regards AA

Absolutely true. I have just ordered 500mL today from my local pharmacist and it cost £5.15. They wanted my name and address and said I would need to sign for it when I came in. It will be there tomorrow am. It took mentioning a few different names before they found it though on their ordering system. Is known as Rubbing Alcohol, Isopropanol, Isopropyl Alcohol. If there's a choice get the highest purity you can (USP or BP). You can also get it from make-up suppliers on-line - I saw one make-up shop in Shepherds Bush, London on the web selling it for about £7.50 for 500mL.
Is NTBCW Ethanol, Ethyl Alcohol, Surgical Spirit, Acetone, Lighter fuel or Campstove Fuel - despite what you might read if you do a google search.
