I have a 2005 CLK 200K which has the M271 engine producing ~160bhp.

I believe that later versions of this engine produce ~180bhp.

What is the difference between the earlier/ lower output versions and the later/ higher output versions?

Is it just an ecu/ mapping issue or are there more fundamental changes on the induction side or mechanicals such as cams, valves etc?

I am just wondering if I can squeeze a little more oomph out of the unit in the same way that MB did back in the day.

I purchased the car two years ago with only ~6,000 miles on it - yes, 16 years old with hardly any miles!

I had all fluids & filters changed when I got it and have DIY changed the oil & filter every 6,000 miles with an MB indy service at 12,000 mile intervals, so oil changed every 6,000 miles.

I have put 40,000 trouble-free miles on the car over the past two years.

Any suggestions on how to squeeze out a little more oomph without going down the route of camshafts, undersize/ oversize supercharger/ crankshaft pulleys and fancy exhaust headers/ systems etc.

Thanks in anticipation.

I think anything with a supercharger like yours is eminently "tunable", it could be something as simple as fitting a different sized supercharger pulley and a remap.

There are supercharger differences between the two models, and then a few variants of both.

We have done some tuning jobs on these m111s. Did pulleys on 3 cars, all made a healthy 45-55hp but only made a big difference in the R170.

Its also a lot of work, supercharger has to come off, it's very hard to press the pulley on in the right place in situ.
