I have a year 2000 CLK 230K. When I start the car in the morning and accelerate, the car picks up well and you can feel the 'kick' and hear the supercharger.

After about 6 miles the supercharger seems to stop working, (can't be heard or felt!).

After you keep driving though the power seems to come back, usually after being sat at a constant speed, i.e 70mph on motorway, pull of motorway and accelerate, then you get the kick and the whine type noise from the supercharger.

Does anyone know what this could be being caused by, or is it meant to do this? Also how do I stop it?

Any help will be much appreciated!

I have a similar problem on a '98 CLK230K Auto. I had the battery disconnected for about an hour yesterday evening in order to install some bluetooth equipment. I had the engine ticking over for about 30 minutes while I was completing the work, and everything seemed OK.

When I started it this morning, there was a complete lack of power. It normally takes a minute or two to warm-up, during which time it will normally rev a little higher. This morning, there was a distinct lack of power as I was pulling away and it took a few minutes to get to a state where it was possible to drive safely. I didn't want to push it too hard because I wasn't sure what was wrong, but here are some symptoms:

1. When in D, it revs at about 600RPM
2. When pulling away, there is a loss of power once it hits about 3000RPM. It doesn't cut-out or anything, I just can't get any more power. When I initially pulled out of my driveway, it seemed to struggle to get above 2500RPM, but improved slightly afterwards.
3. When it changes up a gear, the same behaviour repeats itself.
4. It appears to cycle up through the gears OK and I got up to about 70MPH, but when I drop a gear I don't get the increase in power.
5. I can hear (what I assume is) the supercharger clicking in to action at around 1500RPM
6. There are no warning lights showing at any stage after start-up.

I have been reading a few forums this morning and some suggestions appear to be:

A. A faulty Mass Airflow Sensor
B. The ECU needs to 're-learn' after being disconnected from the battery

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Cheers,
Dave.

It has to be worth checking-cleaning-changing the MAF,this controls all of the engine managenment.
I think it is behind the rad,RH side.

Hi Dave, also in your case the MAF is the first thing to check as in the above thread. Taking the battery off does not upset the engine ECU.

often if you get different symptons with the MAF disconnected that will point to the MAF being at fault.

You can buy a MAF from Bosch, cheaper than getting a fault code read out, always handy to have spare if you are keeping the car.

These things go on a individual basis normally fron 65k up.
