hi there

please can some of you guys/girls help me, im thinking about about buying a 230k CLK auto coupe (or maybe a convertible if i can stretch to it!!!)

i have a few questions and i would be SOOOOOOO mega greatfull is some anyone could anwer some of them.

1. as i have only just started my first business ive got to be a little carefull with cash, so i can only afford an early version, prob a 98, 99 230k clk with about 70-90 thousand miles on the clock. i guess my question is will this car cost me loads in maintainance?

2. not that i care "that" much, but i do about a thousand inner london miles a month, so anyone know what the fuel cons is like:?

3. what probs should i look out for with a 230K of this age.

4. are they fun to drive?

5. is the supercharger a liability at this age?

thanks so much for all your help i really appreciate it so much.

I currently drive my 4th CLK,

I had a '97 CLK200 Elegance (not K), pretty good on fuel but thats about it, quite engine compared to the 230k but the 200 felt sluggish.

I than bought a '99 CLK230k Elegance, not much difference on fuel economy, but a whole lot more power. Being supercharged it was loud when pushed, but for most of my driving (which is in London) I found it to be the best all round.

After that I had a '99 CLK320 Elegance, the start with the Air Mass Sensor was playing up so that was £300 on a car that had only covered 30k, once that was done the car was great, very smooth and refined compared to the 230k. I found the fuel economy to be similar to the 230k on a run, but round town the 230k is definatly better.

I now have a '00 Clk230k Cabriolet, this is a facelift car, and if you can afford to, try and go for a later one (99 V reg onwards). You get more fitted as standard, part electric seats, steering wheel controls, trip computer, indicators on mirrors, colour coded lower sills and bumpers, the 5 speed auto is replaced with a tiptronic box, and the 230k gets and extra 6bhp.

Technically the trim levels are not any lower or higher, its down to choice. Elegance is what it says, softer suspension wood trim.
Sport only available until the facelift, slightly firmer ride, carbon fibre interior trim, and 16" chrome wheels. (list price was very similar to elegance)
Avantgarde replaced Sport trim, spec was similar to elegance except the wood was stained dark grey/black, ride was slightly firmer and wheels were different.

Hope that helps a little
