I have owned this car from new (2000) and had very few problems with it, for the last year the engine management light comes on and will stay on for a few days and then go off for weeks at a time. I have visited the dealer who think? its the 02sensor? to be honest the didn't fill me with confidence that the sensor was u/s as the fault comes and goes.

The other minor niggle is that the one press up for the drivers window will close the window, then it drops down an inch or so. Again several visit to the shop fix for a few weeks(until the glass is wet)? I was told by the Leeds main dealer that they all do this?

The car has only done 27k since new

Any help or advice welcome

Re the window bit you normally reset by holding the swith button down for 10 sec's when closed, If this does not work please say.

I will try the hold down for 10 Sec and report back, it used to clear it, but only for a couple of days or until the glass was wet, meanwhile i will give the glass a really good clean and treat it to some rainex.

Any thought on the sensor? where is it located? are there any good workshop manuals on the CLK

I would think the sensor is in the motor.
It could be the o2 sensor, but when mine was diagnosed, the MAS failed 3 days later whilst I was waiting for the part. The management light didn't work on mine but they symptoms were a slight hesitation when you accelerated, rather like you suddenly pressing the throttle harder after a couple of seconds.
If you want a second opinion and a more reasonable repair charge, bob it into Merc-Care in Pudsey. Sadly they seem to know a lot more that the dealer.

Thanks for that, i have had no performance problems, it just the little motor symbol that lights up. It seem that it goes out when the car hasn't been driven for a few weeks (i work away a bit)

Thanks

clk window

HI

regarding the window problem there was a software change to the control unit. tell the dealer to use star and check the hall counter figure on both windows when they are fully shut if this figure is above 10 they need reprogramming in control unit adaptations

Its only the drivers window that has the problem, i have tried the hold for 10 sec to no avail, i will follow up your dealer comments, just need to find a dealer that does not need 3 weeks notice and a bank loan!!

engine light

HI

The engine light comes on when a fault is detected ( not all engine faults actuate the light) if the engine then has 3 ignition cylcles without detecting a fault he light goes out
