Hi all, just wanted a few 'seasoned pro's' opinions on whether or not to purchase a CLK 55 amg WITH 100+k miles with FMBSH, or pay the extra and go for the lower 'miler', say, 75k miles, again with FMBSH??

My view is that its a V8 and V8's can and will go on forever if correctly maintained, pretty much like anything mechanical really. Of course consumables and other materials will require changing due to wear and tear, but that is all part of servicing something mechanical/electrical.

However, with it being a performance car and the possibility of it being 'ragged' at every opportunity, is it likely that the higher the mileage, the greater the chances of it becoming an old knacker faster than the car with the lesser mileage, even with the servicing?

I realise I may have answered my own question with the reasoning above, but I know little about this car and its realiability and wear/tear/cost issues, so I am asking you guys if you could shed some more light on the subject for me please..?

Thanks,

Ian

The car has probably had Mobil 1 all its life. Check what oil it had during the servicing.

A 100k engine ran on Mob 1 should be in good condition.

The V8 is a strong engine.

I would judge each car separately, I've seen 100+k milers in tip top condition on the other hand I've seen 50,000 milers ready for the scrap yard. I have no problem with higher milages but you should adjust the purchase price to compensate for the likelyhood of more things just about to wear out.

Thanks guys. Yes, just as I thought then, judge every car as a separate entity as would normally be the case when buying a car. I too have no problem with high milers, and agree with you totally on your points, Star. Er.... there's no reference intended to er, 'points of a star'...
