Have now decided that the fuel consumption on a 320 SL would be to crippling for the miles that I do. I have now turned my attention to the CLK convertible, what are the collective thoughts on this model? What fuel consumption would I expect out of the 200, 240 and the 320 and which engine is the one most "suited" to the car?

TIA

HI there

I bought a CLK cabriolet just before Xmas and have been enjoying it since. Mine is the V8 and I have yet to get more than 200 miles out of a tank (and that is with v sedate driving mainly).

Great car though, so much more solid and comfortable than the BMW Convertibles I had before but I would say much less "fun" to drive.

Am very happy with it though:cool:

Funnily enough, so did I. I would have liked the V8 but couldn't find one with the spec I was looking for, so settled for a 320 V6. As for the engines, well that is down to personal choice to a certain extent. I previously had a 230 Kompressor and averaged around 30mpg in it. The 3.2 V6 gets around 25mpg with reasonably spirited driving, dropping to 20mpg if I really nail it.

I found the 240 engine to be a little underwhelming when I test drove it, but I was comparing it to the 320 and the previous generation 230 Komp. As for the 200, not sure, never driven it.

My SL320 V6 returns always 300 miles per 60 liters at the point that I fill up, Xmas run on motorways I got 325 I do not hang around, but then I do not thrash it, its too nice for that. I think the gearing on MB's is superb, always first away. my 300 TE was the same if you kicked it from start.

It's really too bad Merc don't do a diesel convertable. The new 320 would be nice.

I know diesels sound horible standing but it's no better in a saloon. When moving probably undetectable.

I think Audi do diesels for their A4 convertable,

BMW and Audi both have diesel convertibles, as do Renault on their Cabriolet.
