Don't be taken in by my name. New to Mercedes, I have owned a CLK 320 for about two months. My question? I find the throttle unresponsive when pulling away from junctions, esp when compared to the M Galant 2.5V6 I use on a day to day basis.
Is this a CLK characteristic?, am I not used to a floor mounted throttle (if that makes sense), your thoughts appreciated.

CLK - new to mercedes

Hi Xantiaman

I have only driven one - but for many years. However I do remember very distinctly the impression that the dead spot in the pedal movement/engine response had on me.  I felt there was something wrong (like too much slack in the cable). However, I was assured - 'they are all like that' - not the best reassurance I know!

However it is something you do get used too and compensate for accordingly. I can honestly say it is not an issue for me.

If you are not reassured - pop down the dealers and ask for a test drive of other MBs.

I believe that engine has an electronic link between pedal and throttle,  which is moderated by the ECU and takes in to account what gear you are in (Auto box) etc.

The response is, therefore different under different conditions.

To echo Norman's points, all the Benz's I've driven have had very long throttle pedal travel. I have driven 190E 1.8, 190E 2.0, 200(W124), 280E(W123), C240(W202) and 380SEC and a couple of other W124's.

I had a Skoda Fabia as a hire car a week ago, a very well put together car, however, the throttle seemed more like a switch as after a few mm's pedal depression the car seemed to rev it's nuts off. Took me a while to get used to after my daily driver to say the least.

CLK response

We have an S-430 that I drive, and a CLK-320 convertable that belongs to my wife. The only difference between the two in terms of gas pedal response is that the 430 seems slower. (The starting speed, not the pedal response).

The 320 is a 2002, so MB may have tweeked the problem, but our car jumps up instantly when we give it fuel.
