I've got a hankering after a CLK. I've tried the 320 & the 230K, and definetely prefer the drive of 320.
Could anyone who has experience of either/both help me out.

Is there any good reason for choosing the 230K over the 320 ?
Whats the relative MPG ?
Is one more reliable than the other ?
Are there any extras that are must haves ?
Is there anything I need to look out for ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, the CLK cars are great, though I cant speak first hand, do go for the larger engine if you can, the 320 is a great engine and I have had that. fuel wise up to just over 30 driving reasonably.

Just make sure that everything works with a good history, get yourself a new brochure and check the extras out

Get the 320, the economy is basically the same as the 230K, however you have a nice V6 :)
230K was a good compromise for company car drivers when new, as you are not held by that go for the 320.

Check the back wheelarches as they can be bad for rust there. I have just had mine fixed by Mercedes.

I think leather and Auto are essential on them. Nice options to have are parking sensors, heated seats and xenon lights.

Is it a cabriolet or coupe you fancy?

I looked at the 320, but so glad that I bought the 430 instead. A real beast of a car and much smoother and effortless then either the 230 or 320 and with the grunt of the V8 makes it an awesome car.

The 320 is a good drive and much better than the 230 which when I drove one didn't feel that great. Opionions vary, but if the only choices you have are these 2, then go for the 320.

I have had the 320 in the 208 and now have the 209. Consumption ain`t brilliant but my 150 mile per week on b roads doesn`nt help it. Then again 150 mile per week ain`t a lot. The engine is creamy smooth as is the box.
Consumption can get to around 28ish at a steady 80 and the 320 has the power if needed where as the 230 is a bit flat

as mentioned above, look for rust. I have to get all my wheel arches fixed, been quoted £ 600 :( ....
I have 230K, I kind a like it, its very responsive, and if you check the power figures, its not that far away from 320 (yep! trying to convince myself here as well:) ) ...
I had to get the Kompressor cleaned once (dealer charged about £600) and about 6 months after that, oil accumulated in it again, so had to get some more work in it to change the oil valves that were causing oil to leak in it, again costed me about £500 (with discount as they shoudl hv fixed it last time)... so make sure, the car isnt loosing any power, take it for long test drive, try doing over 110-120 just to see if it accelerates fine, as when i bought mine, it was working fine at low speeds, only at higher speeds it lacked power and thus had to get all that work.

o I must add, its a lovely car (W208 ) , looks masculine and has road prescence..

Your figures are identical to my 500, the best I got was 29.9 at a constant 75, one day I will try the constant 60

Lost on the A303 :o)
I only have to travel about 10 miles to see it over 30mpg. I wonder if it has something to do with the gearing. Mine's happily doing about 1500rpm at 60mph.

hmmm I wonder if it's because my tyres are some unknown brand. (Well, I don't recognise them - it's none of the main ones.) How will I know if they're the wrong tyres? My satnav doesn't seem to be incorrect, nor is there any problem with the speed limiter. As for speed, well I haven't noticed any speed cameras flashing behind me when I do the speed limit.

If unbranded tyres improved your MPG we`d all have em :)
The gearing may have something to do with it.
Or, like i said, mine might have something wrong with it !!

Try the CLK 430 its got the lot.Fuel economy is virtually the same as the clk 320.400 miles per tank on the motorways. It has lots more gadgets to play with. if your after performance its not far behind a M3.i was going for the 320 before i drove a 430, im glad i had a test drive.

On the CLK430 I only get around 190 miles out of a tank but i that is all really short trips in the city. Not the best driving for a V8 and auto box:p
having said that, last motorway trip was getting 30mpg while pushing it.

The V8 noise is worth the extra money though, glorious and they are likely to have more extras fitted to them from new.

Very funny.

I am a bt worried there is something wrong with the car. It is fine around town but when I take it on motorwat, sometimes I put my foot down and nothing happens and it jerks 10 secs later and then surges ahead. It does not power ahead like it used to. Hope the gearbox is not away. It has already had the mass air flow meter replaced 6 months ago:(

Forget the gearbox, nothing to do with that, EGR valve sticky,or some thing like that
