HI all

Got my CLK430 Cab yesterday and loving it a lot. It is fitted with the telephone in the front armrest that is compatible with a mobile phone. There is no handset with the car. I just e-mailed local main dealer who wants £131 to change the crade (little bit of plastic) to one for my Nokia 6230. IS there any cheaper way of doing this? The phone seems to be a £700 option so would be nice to use it but am reluctant to pay £131 for it when you often change mobile phone quite often.

Thanks

When i bought the E270, I said that I wanted a cradle for my 6310i included. The salesman said "no problem I have a few of those in my desk drawer". Lots of people are upgrading from the older Nokias like ours to newer ones so the dealer is likely to have a box full somewhere. How you get your hands on one though is another matter.
I had a quick look at Ebay - there are loads on there. Take your pick!

thanks for that

Just been down to the dealer and the guy looked at it and said it is not one that you can change the cradle for and I either need to get the handset that fits it or change the whole system at over £1000 (obviously not going to happen!!).

Any idea what handset came with a 2000 clk ?

Reply already - hope this helps.

"Can you please ask him to have a look into our shop at

http://www.navigeo24.de

It's in german, but "Telefon" is very similar to "telephone" and may be he can identify his cradle by the pictures there.

If it's that one with the bigger mounting bracket, the phone is most likely a Nokia 6150 (if no adaptor on top, so the antenna can be locked), or, if the adaptor cover is in place, it's for the Nokia 6210.

Mercedes-Benz came very late (2002) with the 6310 compatible interface.

It is right, that the cradle of this type of phone handsfree-kit cannot be swapped to the newer one's without retrofitting the complete UHI kit.

Regards,

Mike"

Thanks Brett, mine does seem to be the one that you cant change the cradle on, has to be the whole unit. Found an old Nokia (total brick!!!:p ) that seems to fit but really dont want to have to use this as my everyday phone. Bit annoying really. Guess will just get a second sim card.

Loving having a Mercedes

The UHI handsets only came in in 2003 as far as I know. Those are the ones that you can change the handsets on. I have a 6310 cradle in my car but as I have a company phone, they were not willing to pay for a second SIM as by the terms of their arrangement with their provider they have to pay a subscription per SIM. So I simply swap the SIM into the 6310 handset when I'm in the car and swap it back when I'm out the car.

Good luck and enjoy your car! If you spot a Jasper Blue/Blue Hood CLK320 W208 Cabriolet on the motorway, it is almost certainly me. Wave! :)

I'd confirm that. I looked at an 03 E class before I bought mine but one of the things that put me off was that I couldn't convert or use the phone kit. My 04 one has the UHI kit so I summise UHI must have been mid 03 ish.
Had I bought it, I would have ignored the cradle (Possibly just had it removed) and installed a bluetooth system such as the Nokia CK7W. Not as funky perhaps (though the novelty of dialing from the wheel etc runs out pretty quick and the software is far from faultless anyway), but perfectly functional and you can keep the phone in your pocket.

Thanks guys, you have been very useful indeed:eek:

I think I wil keep this old Nokia in the cradle and only put my sim card into it if on a long journey, not something I do very often in the car. The rest of the time it hides in a secret compartment under the armrest so nobody can see it.

Will keep my eyes out for your Jasper one, that is a nice colour. Mine is the usual silver with grey leather and blue roof (same as my old bmw 323 conv) but a nice combination. I think the the blue roof looks so much better than the silver with a black roof.

Another chapter in the handbook I think today, wonder what new exciting toy I can fin d in the car today.....................
