Hi,

Does anybody here have one of these. I am just wondering about what are the common problems with them. Speaking to various people I have come across the following list but I don't know how accurate it is:

1. Bushing problems
2. Wiper Motor problems
3. Central Locking Problems
4. Wiper Stalk Switch fault.

Does anybody here have direct experience of these cars and would they advise a purchase.

Thanks,

Mike.

Hi Mike,
I have one of these for last few years now...and it has not given me any of the problems that you have mentioned above.
Its a lovely car, I would recommend that you buy it. Just make sure it has no rust and no oil around the MAF (any blocked hose in Kompressor).

Hi,
Wiper 'problem' is common with all mercedes with a single wiper.
It is a lubrication failure and very easily dealt with if greased up an lubricated before theres a problem.
Very easily done follow the post in the 'how to' section.
The problems you have listed above don,t fail anymore excessively than any other car.
As Balal says rust should be your main concern on most Mercs models this age.

Depending on the mileage. If it's (say) over 85k miles then the engine may have blocked engine breather (lower part) nozzles and 'T' piece valve. My car has done 89k miles. One nozzle was 100% blocked and the other approximately 90%.
A DIY fix, with the replacement parts (Hose & T piece) not being too expensive. The brass nozzles can be cleaned. Or, if not DIY, allow about 4hrs labour as (normally) the inlet manifiold will be removed to gain access.
Symptoms of this might be oil in the air filter housing and rough running/idling due to oil finding it's way onto the MAF. Of course rough running/idling could be put down to any number or more expensive problems.

The magnetic camshaft timing advance unit (fitted externally to the front of the cylinder head/camshaft front plate) may leak oil from the electrical connector... this can feed oil into the Engine ECU via the wiring. Or, in the case of my car it leak from behind the body. Again not too expensive to replace. Pull the front (Plastic) cylinder head cover off for that.. looks like an extension of the rocker cover and is just pop on/of. You'll see if it's leaking or not.

I've not had the car overly long but these are two items that I have picked up on from the outset. Not exactly mega buck jobs.
Hope this is of some help.
