I've got a 2000 x plate CLK 320 Convertible Auto with engine/Gearbox probs. Two months ago it went for a valet, I received a phone call from the valet company 2 hours later saying that one of the staff had taken the car out and had lost control of it and ended up driving it into a concrete roundabout….

Anyway £9800.00 pounds later (engine re build) and two months down the line I get it back with big problems. (apparently mb said it needs a service) I Think someone is taking my p@#s. (ITS A REBUILT ENGINE)

Any ideas?

1. The car runs rough at idle
2. On slow acceleration it changes gear @ 3000rpm it's a bit to high. (have they missed something).
3 The car doesn't accelerate like it use to

Please Note: I changed the MAS yesterday and still no change

Please Help!!

Take it to whoever did the work and demand it be repaired. Don't collect until its perfect.

Insist on a courtesy car.

Yup. I wouldn't give it a second's thought - Presumably there is a minimum of a 1 year warranty with the repair as there is with most insurance claims.
As you say, there is nothing service related that can account for those symptoms, so suggest your dealer stops taking the mickey and fixes the problem.
Presumably at £10k, it was the dealer that fixed it in the first place and they are trying to screw some more money out of you to put their mistake right. My answer would be "very funny! - now just get on with it and I don't expect a bill - where's that courtesy car?"

It's got a 3yr MB warranty on the engine but none is accepting responsibility for it, looks like I will have to get my insurance involved yet again…

Thanks for your help

A completely rebuilt engine should not require any servicing whatsoever. It should be restored to the condition it was in before the accident. The gearbox is connected to the engine, so if they give you any waffle about the gearbox not having been touched during the repair, they're lying.

I suggest you involve the local trading standards office. Mention of trading standards usually has garages quaking with fear.

I also suggest you contact Mercedes Benz UK, and complain directly to them about one of their franchaised dealers.

Not much help I know but why on earth did you take it back from the Valet firm?
