Hello All

I have recently bought an MB approved used 55 reg CLS. I have a few queries and wondered if anyone had come across similar?

I have a rattle somewhere on the driver's door, can't pick where though. Obvious things are OK, e.g. window is secure, the wing mirror is fully extended. Any ideas?
Next is the engine sound. There is an "electrical sounding" whine when accelerating, mostly noticable from a standing start, and I'm not sure if this is normal engine noise or something irregular like belt noise?
The indicator segment lights on the Parktronic (middle 2 rectangular lights) seem to light up sporadically. I know these are supposed to show the system is operational, but should they light up at any specific time?
On the COMAND system, I have the TMC option switched on, but am not sure if the UK supports RDS-TMC?

Thanks for any help/comments.

Hello

Welcome and hapy new car, sorry I cannot help but someone else may be able to offer advice however I would take it back and get the garage to look at it. Its under warranty so anything that needs changing can be done quickly.

Rattles are a nightmare to fine, empty all the cubbys, doors or your own stuff just to concel anything in them casuing it.

Noise on the engine easiest thing to do is drive another (same engine) at the delear see if thats the same.

I would list the faults and get it back though,

Post some pics, what model is it? love the look of the CLS

Cheers

Hi,

I don't have the CLS but a CLK.

TMC is available in the UK. With TMC turned on use one of the soft keys down the side of the display and it should bring up a list of current alerts. Obviously unless there is a problem on your route Comand acts as normal. We get a voice message telling us that our route has been recalculated due to traffic conditions.

The rattle is a little more difficult. We had a similar problems on the passenger door which turned out to be something to do with the electric window mechanism (attenuator??)

Enjoy the car. The CLS is on our shopping list when we come to change.

Regards

Steve

Hi. Don't know about TMC but I had a similar rattle in my CLK. After taking the doorskin off, we found that one of the nuts securing the window mechanism had come undone and was rattling around inside. Replaced and tightened, problem solved. Hope that helps.

As its a recent approved car, the dealer will sort out the problems. The rattle is as above, remove everything from the door pocket. If it still rattles - back to the dealer for a strip down.
The 2 parktronic segments should come on whenever the system is active - so < 5mph roughly for the front and only when in reverse for the rear.

Thanks all for your replies. The rattle is apparently to do with the door lock, and the "electric" sound is a PAS pump, both of which MB are looking at.

Regarding the COMAND RDS-TMC option, I still can't get this working. I wonder if I've got the right COMAND disc for the car? Does anyone know what version disc would come with a 55 reg CLS, or with which version RDS-TMC was introduced? I've heard it is version 6.2. The version I have is 4.1. Thanks again for your help.

Version 4.1 is too old for TMC Version 5/5.1 IIRC for TMC. The CLS & E have different Nav Disks to others in the range so be careful when upgrading. I have been told that MB In The Netherlands is the cheapest source of genuine MB CLS/E Comand Disks.

Thanks Blobcat.
Has anyone actually used Netherlands MB to source the latest COMAND disks or offer another reputable source cheaper than UK MB?

Dear All, MB had the car back 2-3 times to find the rattle and changed part of the window mechanism which fixed the rattle. Unfortunately in fixing that, the door now catches on the latch when pushed shut, meaning it has to be given a good swing to shut first time. I've gone back twice more to see if MB can rehang the door so it shuts as before without luck, waiting for next service to try again as fed up of the inconvenience of going back and forth to MB. Anyone have any ideas of what could be out of alignment to cause the door to catch on the latch so I can tell MB what to do?

The new PAS pump fixed the noise, but it's recently started again.

Even with these niggles, I've really enjoyed the car so far, it's got real poke when required, it's smooth on the motorway, and I ferry 2 young kids around no problem. Also, even now when I see another CLS I'm blown away by the shape from all angles. I would recommend this car to anyone.
