Some of you may remember my post in July about my E220 Coupe cylinder head gasket failure, evidenced by coolant loss dripping out the exhaust and excess pressure in the cooling system. Extractorfan mentioned an American product called Steelseal advertised as a permanent repair for such problems. Sounded easier that changing a cylinder head gasket so I thought I'd give it a go. It was about £30 (inc delivery). I followed the simple instructions - the biggest part of the job was that I had to remove the cooling fan blades so that the engine would reach the required temperature. It was an afternoon's work. Verdict - so far the car is running great with no adverse effects.
It might not work for everyone but it worked for me and it was a substantial leak.
If it does fail sometime down the line I will post
.
Thanks again for your help. Robert.
