As a newcomer to Mercedes Benz (03 C270 CDI Elegance SE) and the Forum (I haven't found the virtual bar yet, but when I do the drinks are on me) I am sure I will have lots of queries to ask as time goes by.

My first relates to the Comand system.

In my previous car I had the perfect spot to 'stick' my Garmin sat nav, which was out of the way in terms of obscuring my view of the road ahead, and the cradle was away from prying eyes when the car was parked. However, in the C-class the only option seems to be to stick it to the windscreen, which is an option I don't really relish. So, my thoughts turned to retrofitting the Comand system and I have what seems like a good price (compared to MB) from Comand.co.uk.

So, my question is, apart from the sat nav what other things will I benefit from by fitting Comand?

My car is not pre-wired for the phone at present (the buttons are on the steering wheel, though) and I only have a single slot CD at present.

Thanks in anticipation.

Nigel
PS. Why have I waited this long to buy a Mercedes? :D

Hi Malcolm,

That link is connected to the same people I mentioned.

Unfortunately, they have responded to some questions that I put to them and their answers mean I cannot justify the upgrade. According to them I would have to get a multi-CD changer as the Comand unit cannot navigate and play CDs at the same time  . A fairly basic requirement I would have thought. Also, they say that the CDs only contain individual country maps, so I would have to buy at least three to get me to my usual haunts on the continent. The final bill, with fitting would now be close to £1800, which is cheaper than Mercedes Benz would charge but it is a lot of money just for Sat Nav!, Especially as I already have a Garmin unit with all of Europe mapping on it.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks for the reply, it might not be a bad idea to put in a hard wired power supply to lose the wire from the cigar lighter if the wire was brought out through the glove box the Nav unit can always be popped into the box to save turning it off on a short break.

Just a thought, £1800 is too much I think to spend on that
