computer diagnostics check...

a mate of mine has the cd to do a check on the car he uses it for his vw golf and it has found many problems that has saved him a lot of cash. these things valid? or is it a dodgey copy he has?

also he said he could check my car over if i bought the correct lead. anyone know where to buy the sed lead?

do u know what kind of interface is it in your car ... its called ODB interface !!

you can get the CDs quiet cheap on ebay, and also some companies have free software download (trial period) for diagnostics. expensive part is to get the interface that goes between your car (where the lead from your car connects to) and computer - its mostly refer to as multiplexor (non technical term) ) cant recall its name now... check this website, they sell it www.ukobd.co.uk .

the auction listing that Doyle has mentioned above, includes the 36 pin connector as well.

I bought just the 36 pin connector for £20 few months back, so considering that £100 is not bad at all for the whole hardware required for diagnostics. you can get software for another £20 and thats it! your own diagnostic system. saves paying £40 everytime you get any garage to run diagnostics!

Don't forget you guys that these testers and reader are limited as to what they can do, many faults including the worst can only be read on a dedicated MB system, sure they all plug into the 38 pin socket, but I doubt if you can read CAN BUS faults etc, please check it all out first.
