conductor plate or whole valve body

Hope someone can help here. I have a problem with the 722.9 7G transmissionon in my 2004 CL500 staying in gear. these are the fault codes that are beeing shown during a diagnostic check:-

2204 The signal from component Y3/8n1 (Turbine speed sensor (VGS) is not available)

2502 The gear is implausible or the transmission is slipping

200A Component Y3/8n4 (fully intergrated transmission control (VGS) control unit) is defective

2205 Component Y3/8n1 (turbine speed sensor (VGS) is defective.

The fitter says I need a new valve body and it is a dealer only job.
Now i have been told that on some 722.9 transmissions you can get the conductor plate replaced instead, which is only a £600 job, as apposed to the £1200 cost of a new valve body. But when I asked the local dealership it was as if I was talking double dutch to them.
Does any expert on here know if the conductor plate can be changed on my car or do I need the entire valve body also if possible what is the part number for the replacement conductor plate.

You need to follow the fault path in star to see if repair (tcu board) is available seperately or complete valve body. Not only dealer fitment.

A 2004 CL500 will have the 722.6 gearbox will it not?? The W216 had the 7G tronic 722.9 gearbox but yours should be a W215.

If im right the speed plate is £208 + Labour + oil + VATand not a dealer job. But diagnosis on STAR is required, you can check the speed plate using actual values as Ian has rightly pointed out above.

Thanks Steve and Ian for your help, guess I will run it into Warrington and get it checked. My transmission is unfortunatly a 7G 722.9, they where fitted to the W215 from 2004 to 2006

Well finally had the car looked at by Mercedes at Warrington. As I feared from the fault codes the whole valve body needed to be replaced. Total cost for the whole job with club discount was £1365.00. Car now runs perfectly, but still have fault with the cruise control not working above 50mph, which I thought was because of the valve body. Have since found out it is the wrong size tyres fitted (275x35x20 new ones (275x30x20) being fitted tomorrow). Fantastic service at Mercedes of Warrington though, and highly recommended if you have to go to a dealer in this area. Thanks again Steve and Ian for all your help and advice. Now just need all this snow to melt and I can burn some rubber.

Hi i have heard it called "a valve body conductor plate" and also various expletives beginning with f---- ,b---- a-----, according to before or after finding out the price! and also when handing over the cash! thats life!
