News just in . ; Soon the Police will be able to confiscate your phone , if you are seen or catched with the phone in your hand while driving on UK roads ,.What a cracking idea .About time some clever so in so came up with this .

This could lead to some interesting confrontations at the roadside.

For so many their lives are on their phones.

They would be mega busy in Central London as every second driver seemed to be a user.

About time they brought this in , however no doubt it will be blocked eventually due to some playing whichever narrative "card" is most apt in that particular situation.

It's the same old situation , throw out a theoretical punishment and hope it deters enough people.

Exactly, Unfortunately, until these are actually enforced by bolstering budgets and raising numbers, nothing will change!

May as well be confiscate the car on the spot.

Interesting but, my issue with that is, it will be a very very small minority that may get caught. As above not enough man power to police it.

I live outside 3 schools with a 20mph limit, working from home, I can’t believe how many people just drive around on the phone, as the priority only glancing up at the road every so often. If they are not on the phone, the moment they stop at the 1 vehicle passing speed bumps to give way, out comes the phone or, the head drop whereby the phone is already on or, they have a sudden need to start checking if their private parts still exist.

This will not stop unless the technology is such that, hand held phone call, services, social media etc are disabled when it detects one is in a vehicle. Sadly you can’t trust people to do the right thing.

All well and good giving them the powers but we don’t have enough of them around.

I’ve lived in places where people (myself included) feared the police. However the attitude toward police here is a total lack of respect. Some deserved and some due to our current culture.

Most police wear body cams now-a-days no need for anyones "word".

Catching those must be the simplest thing in the world (apart from not using the phone in the first place).

Position plain clothes police at the center of any pedestrian crossing , as if waiting to cross the road.

Camera catches approaching vehicle reg number / driver / phone usage for evidence.

Chap on the window , shows police ID card and the driver is asked (told) to pull over once through the junction where a "hidden / unmarked " police vehicle will do the confiscating of the device.

Simples.

Only problem is lack of police.

Yep thank god for the body worn cameras!
The police that attended mine for false allegations by the soon to be ex Mrs were all made and undone by herself and all captured on the body cameras.

Had it not been for the irrefutable various forms of video evidence I would have been done like a kipper!

One for the police, some of the easiest and sadistic allegations known to man, the cops saw through and disproved themselves, exposing the soon to be ex for the narcissist she truly is! Absolute hats off to the police officers and detectives on this!

Just make enforcement pay for itself a 1000 instant fine. And no fixed notice just pay up or ur in the nic till its paid.

years ago if "plod" caught a user of illegal cb equipment (before it became ok to use it in this country) they would "invite " you to remove the article and place it in front of a wheel then ask you to pull forward.... perhaps the same should happen now with phones?

Some police forces accept video evidence from members of the public ie cycling mikey etc so perhaps plod should get on its bike and do the same as other cyclists do. then again they would probably have to do a risk assessment and deem it too dangerous.

Simple rule to fix the issue is to make it illegal for a phone to be inside the passenger area of a vehicle whilst being driven. I.e it must be in the boot or a locked compartment.

And impound the car until fines paid??? Its a big prob in France. I can't remember ever not seeing someone on roundabout and on phone.
